Updating the
Kiosk

Periodically, new versions of the Kiosk
software will be made available on the Kiosk web site.
The Installation Process:
Step 1) Download the update file.
The download page can be accessed at: http://www.open-esl.org/Kiosk/KioskSoftware.html
Look for the little Kiosk icon in the
"Downloads" column. Click the icon to initiate the download.
Depending on your browser settings, you may be presented with a
dialog box asking you if you want to save.
Step 2) Stage the update file.
Once the file has been downloaded, there are
two ways to begin the installation:
Local
option:
If you have downloaded the file directly to your Kiosk
device, you can move the file “KioskInstaller” from your
download directory to the “home” directory/folder of the account
you use when running the Kiosk. (You may need to change the file
permissions to make it “executable”.
USB
option: (This method is preferred if you will be updating
multiple devices. It also handles file permission issues.) Copy
/ move the “KioskInstaller” file from your computer’s download
directory to the top-level directory of a USB drive. (Be sure to
overwrite any previous version of the file in that location if
present.)
Step 3) Open the currently installed Kiosk
application, and from the main Menu, press "A" to go to the
"Advanced Administration" menu.
Step 4) From the Advanced Administration menu, press "U" for
"Update".
(Local option) Step 5) The update process will find the "KioskInstaller" file and proceed.
(USB option) Step 5) You will be
prompted to insert the USB drive you prepared as instructed in
"USB option" above.
The system will copy the files from the USB
drive to the Kiosk device and automatically set the proper
permissions.
You will then be instructed to unplug the USB drive.
Step 6) The update application will begin and
you will be shown a message to indicate that the update will be
installed in the same location on your Kiosk device as your
current version. Do not worry! your class information will
remain intact!
Step 7) Simply follow the instructions given
on any prompts and the update will be installed. Various
messages will scroll by on the screen indicating progress.
Step 8) Once the update has finished, the Kiosk will restart and you will be in the new version!
